Wheres the best place in la near the studios and go to school?

i live in Riverside and will attend a community college. However, next year i want to transfer to another community college and get an apartment most likely with a roommate. I know Ill have to save, save, save. My main priority is getting into the acting biz. So whats a good area close to a good community college that is close to the Studios. Less than thirty minutes would be nice. I was thinking Burbank, santa Monica (expensive), sherman oaks, studio city,etc. I also need lower costs and less traffic. But very important a safe area.
