Apparently not, because so many continue to hold to the ridiculous idea that every earthquake that happens is just another sign that "the end is near." Scientifically speaking, has the number of earthquakes really increased?? No! The reason we do not read about many in history is because they did not track earthquakes to the extent that we do today, there were fewer people could read and write, and we have only the writings of a very small part of the world to go by.
